THE DEMOLITION – A True Story

Our landlady informed us that she wanted to sell the house in the near future, and we wanted a change of scenario,  so I prayed for a nice new 3 bedroom apartment,  on the  2^nd or 3^rd floor, with elevator, fully furnished, with all appliances and parking included in the rent, closer to the city and the Metro, that it would have a nice green view from the window, and a rent of no more than $700 a month.  Yes, we believe in miracles.

We checked up a few apartments and found a nice brand new one, very sunny and with big windows, a great green view, good price, and I thought I even heard the Lord say: “This is the way, walk ye in it”. But after considering all the pros and cons, we thought it was too small for our needs and kept looking for something bigger. We looked in more than 30 different buildings, and after 3 weeks we decided to rent the one the Lord had “suggested”.  It would have saved us time to just listen to His small voice, but that is human nature, to do it our own way.

After signing the contract, exploring, and checking everything, we noticed that the green view from our window was marred by an old school building, about 7 stories high, that had been abandoned for a long time. That brown building was a big eye sore for me. But what could we do? We had already signed the contract for one year, and it would be quite silly to break the contract just because we didn’t notice a building that had been there all the time…

Well, I believe in prayer and Jesus  said: “Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven.” so me and my husband decided to pray, and we pointed our fingers at that building, agreed, and asked God in Jesus name, to demolish it.  (That building had been there for over 15 years.)

Just one week after we prayed, I noticed a gigantic crane and a lot of movement going on around that building. It raised my eyebrow a bit more than usual.  Then later on in the day I saw that the crane had lifted up 2 big bulldozers unto the roof of the old building.   “Oh my, I wonder what they are going to do with those big machines on top of the roof?! “.

Next day I saw a crew of workers setting up bamboo scaffolding from the bottom of the building all the way to the roof on both corners of the building. Once they were finished, they covered the bamboo with blue protective fabric as is customary in Taiwanese construction sites.

Then to my amazement, early next morning and with a lot of noise, those bulldozers started drilling and breaking the floor of the roof. I called my husband and my son, “what do you guys think they are trying to do?   Are they going to demolish it?”

It was obvious they were trying to destroy the top floor, but we couldn’t understand the logistics of it, as this was not what we -as foreigners living in an Asian country- would expect to see in a normal building demolition. (I expected it dynamited in a controlled situation or demolished with a big iron ball, but definitely not drilled down from the roof with heavy duty machines)

I work from home, so I was following the daily progress from my window for almost 4 weeks. Every day they knocked down more and more floors. When there was only 2 floors left, the crane came back and brought the bulldozers down. They changed tactics and began drilling one of the walls and columns that held the building up, till it totally collapsed. Then they did the same in the other side.

I woke up in the morning of the 26^th day of demolition work and there was no trace of that ugly eye sore building. All I could now see from my window was the green view and those luscious trees loaded with birds.  Wow!  Amazing! What an answer to prayer!  We praised our God of Love who went to such extent as to fulfill my desires for a clear green view from my window!

“Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart”.

Now when I gaze out of my window right besides my desk, Instead of the noise of the bulldozers, I can follow the activities of a family of black Drongos (black bird with forked tail) who successfully raised their 2 fledglings. They all perch in a telephone line quite close to my window and I can enjoy their daily progress.

Now, if God takes such good care of my Drongo bird family, he gives me exactly the apartment I asked, and He goes out of His way to demolish a building that was bothering me…is there really anything to worry about?  God is in control, He loves us and He wants us to be happy and enjoy the Life He has given us. “Ask and you will receive, so that your joy may be made full”.
